Flashback Friday: The Righteous Afro-Funk of Orchestre Abass From the 1970s Recently Reissued
The story goes that Orchestre Abass released a couple of killer singles in the early 70s but were never able to get a full LP out the door during their heady prime. Fast forward to 2008 when one of the people from the Analog Africa label was digging through some old tapes in Ghana and found this record. Leaving aside the amazing music contained on these releases, it is pretty mind-blowing that something this outstanding spent decades sitting unheard and came close to never seeing the light of day. The six-song LP is a wild trip of scorching afro-funk that stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the heavyweights in the genre. Listen to the funky and soulful grooves yourself via bandcamp below and grab a digital or vinyl copy to add this long-lost gem to your collection.
