Cate Le Bon: “Daylight Matters” / Local Show This Summer

Welsh artist Cate Le Bon recently announced that her latest solo album Reward will drop this Spring (5/24) via Mexican Summer (pre order here). As a longtime admirer of Le Bon’s work I couldn’t be more excited.

The new record is the product of what sounds like a very intense and very solitary process.  In Le Bon’s own words she describes a “strange romanticism to going a little bit crazy and playing the piano to yourself and singing into the night.” The new work also marks a bit of a departure from the guitar (which she’s something of a virtuoso with) with the piano taking on the role of lead instrument.

Lead single “Daylight Matters” was recently posted and you can stream it above. If this tune is any indication, Le Bon shines no matter which instrument she chooses. I can’t wait to hear the rest.

Le Bon will perform at First Avenue on 7/18 with the also great Parquet Courts (info/tix)

Also, fun fact: I just discovered that Le Bon’s favorite albums (which she submitted to the Quietus a few years back) shares some crossover with our own recent “perfect albums” list as well as a few I definitely need to check out soon!)
