Shana Cleveland: “Face Of the Sun” / Show Fri
You might recognize Shana Cleveland from her long-running gig as the frontwoman for California garage/surf band La Luz. She recently branched out on her own to record her first solo record, Night of the Worm Moon.
Cleveland’s solo sound is quite a bit more subdued from that of her band’s. Worm Moon is a melancholy and bittersweet take on country-tinged acid folk. While mellower, Cleveland’s talent for melody still comes across strongly on the tracks. Her hooks are undeniable even as she unravels them into beguiling strands of spacey cosmic enchantment.
Cleveland will perform tomorrow (5/17) at First Avenue, opening up for the Mountain Goats (info here).
