Listen to new synth-pop album from Operators (Dan Boeckner from Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs)
If you have been a fan of Dan Boeckner’s previous work (Wold Parade, Divine Fits, but especially Handsome Furs and Atlas Strategic), you’re probably already a fan of his Operators project as well. If not, you should give them a listen. The trio recently released their 2nd LP Radiant Dawn (stream below) and are visiting the Twin Cities for a show Wednesday at the Turf Club.
The 14-song LP is classic Boeckner, with spastic, dark melodies splashed over fuzzy synths and arena rock guitars. Like much of his work, it could be cheesy or trite in lesser hands, but somehow he manages to land the ship. Wrapped tightly in 80’s synth music, it is another collection of winners from a guy who, despite seeming like he is always near to running off the rails, never fails to deliver when he harnesses his crack songwriting skills onto tape.
Boeckner is also a consummate showman, so even if you’re on the fence with the music, he’s always a hoot flailing across the stage, which should be especially entertaining at the Turf. Opening the night will be DOOMSQUAD, a self-described “art-dance sibling trio.” More info and tickets HERE
