Earl Sweatshirt Returns With Another Dizzying Release || Watch Video For New Track “East”
With a scant 12 hour notice, the mercurial rapper Earl Sweatshirt dropped his new record Feet of Clay earlier today. The surprise album follows his stunning 2018 LP Some Rap Songs, and continues his trend of dizzying raps dissolving into beats that seem to be wrestling with themselves. The 7-song, 15 minute album is punk in not just it’s minimal song lengths, but in its absolute unwillingness to adhere to any sort of rules or best practices. His rhymes are as emotionally dense and deeply human while still feeling like they are wrapped in a complexity that few rappers match. It takes a bit of steadying to hear through the chaos, but the end result is as stunning as ever, and his (mostly) self-produced album shows his continued evolution into one of raps most engaging, forwarding-thinking enigmas.
