Stream MaLLy’s “The Journey to a Smile” / Holiday Show in December
The last we heard from talented local rapper MaLLy was when he performed at Reviler’s 6.25 year Anniversary Show at the Triple Rock in 2016. That was a full two years since his last album The Colors of Black, and it was to be another three years still until his next full length work which just arrived this Fall.
While we didn’t know it, during all that time MaLLy was undergoing a great deal of personal change. He gave up both alcohol and meat, and started meditating on a regular basis. He started to take a more clear-headed and mindful approach to his craft, resulting in The Journey to a Smile which you can stream below.
The new work represents a new perspective for MaLLy, less a brash young firebrand and more of a wise, thoughtful veteran. That’s not to say it doesn’t still pack a punch though, particularly stand out single “Dear Whoever” that functions as a cautionary tale, uplifting directive, and slow-burning banger all at once. Fantastic production from “PC” doesn’t hurt either.
