Iceblink: “Carpet Cocoon” / New Album This Month
We’ve consistently been entranced by the snippets of music we have heard from local artist Iceblink over the past few years. Up until now though, we’ve known very little about the artist herself, Lynn Avery.
Luckily for us, there’s a full length cassette Carpet Cocoon coming from Iceblink later this month (1/24 Moon Glyph) and it comes with some tidbits about the enigmatic composer. Such tidbits include that fact that Avery is a trans woman and that all of her creative output is about that identity and experience. She’s also a multi instrumentalist and plays most but not quite all all of the instruments in her songs (her new album also features a few guests).
Avery recently released a single “Dialoghi” from the forthcoming cassette and you can stream it below. It’s a gorgeously melancholic melange of Latin-sounding picked nylon string guitars, flute, filtered saxophone, and synthesizer. Avery calls Carpet Cocoon her “comfort album, music to retreat to in the winter,” and that comes through in the tune’s warm and embracing sound.
Iceblink doesn’t currently have a release show scheduled but follow Moon Glyph for details on how/where you can pick up the tape when it drops on the 24th!
