The Fresh Five: Hinds, Knxwledge, Alice Boman, Men I Trust, Wished Bone
For the Fresh Five we pick out five great new(ish) jams that we’re currently obsessing over. Check out the accompanying playlist below for your listening pleasure.
1. Hinds – Riding Solo
Super thrilled that this Spanish pop/punk quartet seem to be (hopefully) gearing up for a new 2020 release. I still spin their last (2016) record I Don’t Run quite a bit and this new track sounds like something that will be getting heavy play in the future.
2. Knxwledge – Do You
Knxwledge the stage name for very much up-and-coming producer Glen Earl Boothe (who also moonlights with superstar Anderson Paak as the duo Nxworries). Boothe was a very-anticipated record coming out this year on Stones Throw. This first track is an extremely promising hot slice of soul.
3. Alice Boman – Don’t Forget About Me
Swedish songwriter Alice Boman’s debut record just dropped a couple weeks ago and its terrific. So much lush dreaminess.
4. Men I Trust – Numb
This one is a little older than the rest but Men I Trust are very much a band I hope to finally see live in 2020. This languid gem is off of their record from last year Oncle Jazz.
5. Wished Bone – Hold Me
Wished Bone is indie songwriter Ashley Rhodus and this titular track from her month’s old record of the same name is simple but effective low key pop-making. Lots of earworms in this record – it’s a shame it was released so late in the previous year and therefore probably got missed in a lot of year-end wrap ups.
