Stream The Nightingale Trio’s Latest Album “Love Songs”
Local(ish) vocal group The Nightingale Trio recently released a short album of new works consisting of recordings made over the past several years. Love Songs features songs commissioned from Ayanna Woods (Saul Williams & Ted Hearne) and Olga Amelkina-Vera (winner of the 2017-18 American Prize in Composition for her piece Submerged Worlds).
Those already familiar with The Nightingale Trio’s sound, which consists largely of Eastern European derived or inspired tunes done in three part vocal harmony, will find much to love in the new material. As the title would suggest, the tunes on Love Songs are romantically themed, which lends a beautiful sense of yearning and bittersweet melancholy to the overall composition.
The trio (which consists of local singer Sarah Larsson as well as out-of-staters Nala Bala and Rachel LaViola) has never sounded better. Their vocals, free of any kind of instrumental or production embellishment, stand on their own in unadorned, crystalline beauty. It’s a balm to what currently feels like a very bitter and embattled world – and hopefully an inspiration for how we can all focus on what truly matters and come through it together.
A fun side note: Sarah Larsson is currently commissioning digital singing telegrams which could be a great way to help brighten the day for someone you love (which we could all use a bit more of these days). Send one today!
