Stream Maki’s “Manic Pixie Conscience” EP
I decided I needed to check out local R&B singer Maki (full name, Maraki Girma) hearing her excellent single “Lust” on Radio K’s local program last Friday. The song is two years old but Maki has since followed up this year with Manic Pixie Conscious EP, which you can stream below. The latest material consists of six tracks in which the R&B of the aforementioned track is dialed back a bit in place of a more ambient/experimental sound. MPC is feels very blurry, like experiencing pop through a heavy drugged out haze. Or like you put on an Erykah Badu record at the wrong speed. It’s very chill and beautiful, but in slow motion. I am very much digging it and look forward to see Maki heads next.
