Real Numbers Return with the Shimmering Pop of “Brighter Then” (New EP on Slumberland Records in January)

Real Numbers have been around for a while, but they really blew us away with their outstanding 2016 album Wordless Wonder, where their razor-sharp garage pop sounded like it had landed on in Minneapolis straight from the heady 1960s. “Frank Infatuation,” the lead single from the album, is a top 10 song of that decade for local songs for me, and the rest of the album didn’t fall too far off, so I was excited to hear the band are back with a new EP.

The five-song Brighter Then will be released in January 0f 2021 on Slumberland Records, and you can listen to the title track above. The band also announced they have added a keyboard player, which certainly will fill out their sound. “Brighter Then”shares the same smart melodies and jangly guitars from their last album, with an extra layer of shimmer added on top that harkens more of an 80s indie pop sound. Can’t wait to hear the whole EP.
