Nick Bhalla: “Guerande” / Record Out This Spring
We recently got introduced to local quartet Pharma Bums, a local indie rock band who draw heavily from jazz traditions for inspiration. Given that inclination, it comes as no surprise that band member Nick Bhalla delves even deeper into jazz for his solo work.
In his case, Bhalla leans into his jazz composition and improvisational chops to craft a very mellow, very soft-feeling sound that draws both modern and classical influences. The world of jazz fusion is one I know very little about so I will leave the interpretation up to the listener. Suffice to say I enjoy the soothing sound that Bhalla lays down in “Guerande” (which you can stream above). Bhalla’s debut record Limitations in an Emergency will be out later this Spring.
