Momma’s 90s Influences Shine on “Motorbike” (Show Saturday!)

90s revivalism has been pretty big in the past few years, with plenty of bands touching on the era’s grunge and alt-rock sounds. However, as a former 90s teenager, not as many have stuck with me as hard as Momma’s Household Name album. Household Name celebrates everything great about the era with modern flourishes, smart references, and perfect songwriting. While the Pavement mentioning single “Speeding 72” got me hooked, the whole album is full of gems. The most recent single and video, “Motorbike” plays off the perfect quiet/loud verse/chorus dynamics full of big hooks and fuzzed-out melodies. Household Name has been gathering many great reviews over the last few months, so don’t be surprised if the band hits the big time, and this is the last time you’ll see them somewhere like the Turf Club.
