Check Out the Chilled Out Songwriting of Bonny Doon and Anna St. Louis and See’m TONIGHT (July 13th) in Minneapolis!
Both Bonny Doon and Anna St. Louis make music that can, formally, be called “chill.” Despite their taking different paths down the road, they both create smart, singer-songwriter music that gives a distinct sense of calm and tranquility without sounding like an empty-suit coffee shop snoozer.
Bonny Doon (a band, not a person, fwiw) make a more angular, off-kilter brand, sounding influenced by Pavement and Bill Callahan, dosed with some millennial sadness. Anna St. Louis (a person, with a band backing her) makes more cosmic, breezy music that could fit into folk/country genre as much as pop/rock. Her voice and songwriting seem tailor made to dance alongside the pedal steel that litters her songs. She could open for Lucinda Williams and have the crowd eating out of her hands. Both bands, unsurprisingly, have released music on the Woodsist label that has mined some of the best artists over the last decade in both of their respective areas.
These two bands will be hitting up the 7th St Entry tonight (Thur, July 13th) as part of their national tour. Bonny Doon is headlining the tour, but you won’t want to miss either artist. Music is set to start at 8:30, so make sure to be there even before the sun has set. More info/tickets HERE.
